Capelli Partnership Continues
After a hectic first season working with Capelli Sport, Wombwell Town are delighted to announce the continued partnership with the sports brand. Having kitted out the majority of the teams within the club for the 2023/24 season, the pair hope to build on the foundations of what has been a busy time for both parties in the past twelve months. The sponsorship will see Capelli supply footballs and prizes for the upcoming Junior Tournament, as well as t-shirts for our volunteers to wear. Capelli Sport will also be an Official Club Sponsor for the 2023/24 season. Presentation Night Round-up
Saturday 11th May saw the club's annual Presentation Night take place at the Recreation Ground. A large number of fans and players were present as the previous twelve months were celebrated by officials of the club. The evening started with Ian Glover's special presentation for his good friend, and Wombwell Town co-founder, Doug O'Connor, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday. Mr. Glover spoke about his mission to find memories of Doug's time with Barnsley FC and completed his task with framed programmes and line-ups from his games against Mansfield Town and Peterborough United. Captain Rikki Paylor then said a few words to thank the club and his team mates on their season, but also welcomed Elliott from the U13s to the front to show support for the young man who suffered an assault in late March. On behalf of the club, Rikki said we would support him in recovery and let him know he is part of the club at all levels, and that Elliott would be welcome to any game as our guest. Secretary Alan Percival was up next to discuss the season and the achievements on the pitch in the last season. Reminiscing about the sixth place achievement in their first season in the NCEL, the goals scored and clean sheets kept. There was also a special mention to Jono Davis who made his 100th appearance and Gareth McDermott who became the all time appearance holder during the season. A presentation of flowers was then handed out to many of the female volunteers at the club who have spent hours throughout the season dedicating time behind the scenes. First up was Junior Secretary Liz Naylor who continues to grow and support the youth teams at the club, dealing with many issues (good and bad) during the season. Volunteers Linda O'Connor and Jayne Wharam came up next for their efforts on a match day behind the bar and cleaning between games. Finally, Nicola Rose and Sheelagh Percival received flowers for their support that many people don't see during the week and on match days. Presented by management team Karl Rose and Jason Dodsworth, The Clubman of the Year award was shared this season with the O'Connor family grouped together for their combined efforts this season. Not only were Doug, Linda and Craig present at most matches providing hospitality and support, but at the ground during the week doing the jobs that help make the club run, such as cleaning, sweeping the changing rooms, tidying and work on the pitch. In its first year the Committee's Player of the Season went to Captain Rikki Paylor for his dedication to the club and performances on the pitch in not on at the heart of the defence, but going forward too where Rikki scored nine goals in 33 appearances. The Manager's Player of the Season was awarded to goalkeeper Jono Davis, who showed improving performances yet again this season. Keeping 14 clean sheets in 40 appearances, as well as becoming the first Weller to make 100 starts for the club. .Finally, the coveted Supporters' Player of the Season vote saw the consistent Jason Paling pick up the award after his fine displays during the season. Missing just two matches throughout the season, the right back made 44 appearances and became a reliable member of the team. Paling had a tough battle on the online vote to win the award and both Eddie Agnew and Gadhafi Kiwanuka were close winning the award - with all ten contenders receiving votes. We hope everyone has a great summer and the team will return for pre-season in June. Final League Table Confirmed
The NCEL have awarded a 2-0 win and the three points to Wombwell Town for the game against Clay Cross Town after the hosts couldn't raise a team. This decision follows shortly after the same outcome came for the tie against Nostell MW. Both decisions concludes our season off the pitch rather than on it, but overall the club can be very satisfied with our first season in at step six. Mick Norbury Departs
We wish Mick Norbury the best as he departs to join Brighouse Town as Assistant Manager. Mick joined us on Boxing Day as part of the management team and we thank him for his time and efforts during his short spell with us. Final Games of the Season
The NCEL have confirmed the home game against Nostell MW will NOT be played. Nostell MW were unable to field a team for the Friday 19th April fixture and have accepted the charges from the league without wishing to appeal. The NCEL confirmed on Sunday 5th May that Wombwell Town shall be awarded three points with the game cancelled. The award gives the club 86 points in their first season at step six with one game remaining, however this tally could go up to 89. Late on Sunday evening Clay Cross contacted the club, league and match officials to confirm they could not field a team for the game on Bank Holiday Monday (6th May). Similarly to the situation with the Nostell fixture, it would be expected that the points be awarded to Wombwell Town and the fixture not fulfilled. The added three points would have no effect on the league placing and a decision to not play the game would conclude the season in an odd, but not unfamiliar fashion. Whilst in the CSL Division Two in their first season, two of the final matches were also awarded to the club with the teams (Dodworth Reserves and AFC Dronfield Reserves) unable to fulfill their fixtures - but on that occasion the Wellers had already lifted the league trophy. We await a decision from the NCEL on the outcome of the Clay Cross fixture. Player Presentation Evening
Supporters are invited to join the celebrations of the 2023/24 season at the Recreation Ground Clubhouse on Saturday 11th May. The evening will feature the presentation of awards to selected players of the men's first team. Our presentation evening will have a casual start as always from 7pm (clubhouse and bar will likely be open before hand). Who will pick up the trophies for Supporter's Player, Manager's Player and more...? Be there to find out. Parkgate FC Programme

Wellers sign James
Wellers have signed former Doncaster Rovers and Hyde United midfielder Morgan James from Frickley Athletic on deadline day. James joins us with a two game suspension, however as Frickley have just two matches remaining it will allow the player to make five appearances for the club before the summer break. Morgan will be available for the final away trip of the season at Clay Cross. Wellers sign Lindley
19 year old midfielder Josh Lindley is the latest addition to the Wombwell Town squad following the completion of his move from Wakefield AFC. The former Doncaster Rovers prospect has gained valuable experience at Ossett United and made 9 appearances for Selby Town before joining Wakefield for a brief spell. We thank Wakefield for their help in making the transfer go smoothly. Recreation Ground Update
Another huge step to improve our Recreation Ground home has started. On Tuesday diggers were brought in to start the foundations for our new pitch barrier and hard standing around the pitch. With many thanks to the Recreation Ground Trustees, we are now able to bring supporters closer to the action. The changes to the ground will see part of the old athletics cinder track be replaced. The Recreation Ground was initially built in the 60s to accommodate many sports, including athletics and football. However, the athletics club's numbers fell to single figures by the mid-2010s and when secretary and coach Janette Tomlins' health worsened athletics at the stadium became dormant. A lack of a revival since Covid has given Wombwell Town the opportunity to grow and flourish and the work around the pitch will allow a bigger capacity attendance and, more importantly, give supporters the chance to stand behind the goal and down the side where the dugouts are situated. The work will continue and be completed in the next couple of weeks with more work to start at the ground shortly, which will allow spectators to enter the ground, park, and then walk in through the turnstile and pay. This is seen as a major bullet point in our progress and the club would also like to thank Barnsley Council, the Football Foundation, and the FA for their full support. Vertical Divider
